Greetings from Ira ISD!
I am fired up to be a part of this community and grateful that the Board and this community offered me the opportunity to work in their school this past spring. The reputation of the teachers and high expectations of this district reaches far across west Texas, and it is a privilege to join in that work! Not many superintendents can claim a state championship in their first week of the job, but I was fortunate to get to experience exactly that back in the first week of June as I watched our Bulldogs claim a state title in baseball. It was an incredible chance for me to see the passion and spirit of Bulldog nation right off the bat.
This is my 20th year in education, most of which was spent as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and associate principal at Monterey High School in Lubbock. I also served as Athletic Director and history teacher at Kingdom Preparatory in Lubbock for one year and Advanced Academics Coordinator for Secondary Schools in Lubbock ISD for two years. As a kid, I went to schools in Snyder ISD from 5th to 8th grade, so it is an honor for me to return to Scurry County, a community that offered me a great deal in my development as a learner and a human being.
My wife of over 21 years Kristin is also an educator and currently serves as an administrator at Snyder Primary School. She’s an incredible educator and gained vital experience in patience and grace just being married to me this long! Our daughter Annie is a freshman is a Monterey graduate now attending Texas A&M studying Neuroscience with hopes of attending medical school in her future. Our sons Hudson (Junior) and Hayden (Freshman) are enjoying all of the new opportunities and friendships presented to them in Ira ISD.
While learning never stops—and I am learning something new as Superintendent every day—I have picked up a few go-to personal philosophies over two decades in education. First, I do not believe anyone in education—or in anything for that matter— wakes up in the morning and gets excited to do easy things. Both students and educators are motivated by challenges and the opportunity to achieve difficult things. It is our job as the administrators and teachers to set those high expectations and establish a culture of doing hard things. And second, expectations without support are simply meaningless demands. It is my goal to hold myself and our school to a high standard, but at the same time, provide backing for the needs of both teachers and students.
My family and I are excited to be in Ira, and we look forward to taking part in the heritage and traditions of Bulldog Nation. Go Bulldogs!
