Austin Calley spent his entire 13 years of grade school life in Ira ISD, and in November 2024, he was elected to serve on the Board of Trustees in the place where he grew up. “I joined the school board to make a positive contribution to the betterment of the school system in Ira and the community surrounding it,” said Calley, who is now raising Bulldogs of his own: Beau (2nd grade), Ellie (1st grade), and Reese (Pre-K soon!).
Austin has been married to his wife, Mandi, for over ten years, and she is a Registered Nurse who currently practices Aesthetics. Austin is a CPA in Snyder, where he is a partner at Calley and West, P.C. Austin considers stewardship of current personnel and resources to be the most important role of the board as it applies to students’ education, safety, and extracurricular activities.
When asked to reflect on his best moments in Ira, Austin said: “The memories as an Ira Bulldog are endless in my 13 years of school at Ira, although it is sure hard to beat getting warmed up for a cool evening playoff game with a West Texas sunset beaming right before the Friday night lights come on.”
