A mental health crisis is formally defined as a time when there’s an imminent risk of a child hurting themselves or someone else. (Imminent means it’s likely to happen right now or soon.) A crisis might also be a time when you or other adults in the situation can’t help the child with their behavior and need help calming things down. If a child is in crisis, consider their safety and the safety of anyone else around. Find more information on mental health crises at Navigate Life Texas.

The Family Guide to Children’s Mental Health Services was created to help families navigate the Children’s Mental Health System under the Department of State Health Services in Texas. Many children and youth experience life events, biological, environmental and developmental changes that impact their mental health. Some experience changes in behavior, feelings, social relationships, and academic achievement in school. These changes could be a sign of the need for additional support or the need for mental health services.

Despite the pressure to be a superhero, Black women are more likely to report feeling sad, lonely, and anxious. However, they are less likely to seek mental health support than white women. Some Black women may not know that their emotions are a symptom of anxiety or depression. This can make it unclear that support could be necessary.
The team of educators at Bestcolleges.com provides a curated guide that provides ample resources and opportunities for minority readers to deal with stress positively. Take a look below:

Apps for Anxious Students
Woebot
Woebot is an app that gives you the opportunity to talk through and
process some of your feelings of anxiety and depression. The woebot, a computer
coach, uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practices to walk people through
calming exercises, and can give them someone to talk to. Woebot can also check
in on you daily to see how you are doing and give you support.
Sanvello
Sanvello is also an app that has roots in CBT and is designed to support people with anxiety. It includes guided meditations, a daily mood tracker, and other activities and videos. It can be set to alert you daily so that you can check in and work through any anxiety you might be feeling.
Breathe2Relax
This simple app is
perfect for helping people practice deep breathing. It includes visuals that
you can follow as you breathe. It also can be customized to the breathing
pattern that you would like.
By no means should these apps replace therapy, but they can be a great additional tool for students to use. Each of the apps is available for free download on Google Play and in the App Store.
